Cuban Provisioning (Or Lack Thereof)

February 1, 2017

One of the most obvious examples of stark difference between Cuba and most other countries (third world or not) was found at the grocery store.

-

Talk about almost impossible to find what you're looking for unless it includes beans, rice or sweetened condensed milk.

-

If variety is the spice of life, Cuban grocery shopping is barely qualifies as plain white bread.

-

Expect to leave not with what you went in for, but more likely something completely random. Like funky canned peppers or honey or Pringles.

-

Fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and bakery items come from the street, if you know which side street to follow and door to knock on.

-

On the note of fresh fruits, the weekend farmers markets are intense.
